Hunt Valley Golf Club, a private non-equity club owned and operated by Arcis Golf, has completed the renovation of 18 championship holes comprised of the red and white nines, as well as its practice range. Part of a multi-million dollar improvement program to revitalize the club and further provide an unforgettable golfing experience for its members and guests, Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design was charged with leading the golf course redesign, with Southeastern Golf Incorporated completing the construction.

With the course remaining open throughout the renovation project, construction began in October 2015. Architect Jason Straka of Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design explained that the renovations on the red and white nines, which were originally designed in the late 1960’s, were implemented to greatly improve the strategy and shot value of the holes, along with their playability, maintenance, and overall aesthetics. The project scope included bunker redesign and drainage improvements, a new practice range tee to enlarge and lengthen the range, as well as the strategic removal of select trees to open up vistas on certain holes.

While planning the redesign of the bunkers, we determined to not only reduce their total area, but to seize the opportunity to significantly improve the surface and subsurface drainage around them as well. Golfers may not readily see the drainage improvements, but they will notice improved conditioning and playability as a result of them. – Jason Straka, Principal Fry/Straka Global Golf Design

Completed in April 2016 within budget and on schedule, the improvements have received positive reactions from the membership and have already drawn in many new members. Straka continued by saying, “It was a pleasure working in partnership with Arcis Golf and the outstanding team of professionals selected to bring the project to fruition. Southeastern Golf, a certified golf course builder by the Golf Course Builders Association of America, did a fantastic job and were very flexible meeting deadlines. In addition, Golf Course Superintendent Steve Lutz was excellent to work with and served a vital role as the ‘eyes and ears on the ground’ throughout the project.”

Hunt Valley Golf Club offers an array of upscale sports and recreational amenities complemented by a year-long schedule of special events designed exclusively for members and their guests.  With these transformational improvements to the golf course, Hunt Valley is strategically set to continue its tradition of being Baltimore’s Preeminent Private Golf & Lifestyle Club.
