Chenequa Country Club, located on the western shore of Beaver Lake in the Village of Chenequa, Wisconsin, has commissioned the award-winning team of Fry/Straka Global Golf Course design to create an overall master plan for the club.

Founded in October of 1911, Chenequa Country Club enlisted legendary architect, Thomas Bendelow, to design a nine-hole golf course. Bendelow’s original layout was completed and opened for play in the summer of 1912. In 1962, additional land was purchased and the course was expanded to 18-holes under the watchful eyes of architect, Larry Packard. Subsequent renovations were completed under ASGCA Fellow, Bob Lohmann.

In order to keep up with the evolving game of golf and to meet the demands of its members, the club recently began the process of seeking a golf course architecture firm to assist with a new master plan for course improvements. After interviewing several talented individuals and firms, the club chose Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design to lead its club through the renovation process.

Patrick Wells, one of the club’s directors and current golf course committee chair, commented, “Fry/Straka really impressed us with their attention to detail, the depth and thoroughness of their research and planning phase, and the extensive use of the latest technologies to ensure the best and most efficient use of our property.” Wells continued, “We certainly recognized their resume and body of work, and they also came highly recommended by several of our members who have worked with them at other courses around the country, including at Erin Hills which is less than 20 minutes away.”

Jason Straka, principal of Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design added, “Chenequa Country Club is an excellent club with great people and lots of history. We will be studying the classic elements from the original Thomas Bendelow design to see which pieces should and could be restored. Additionally, the club has extra ground that may yield a par-3 course or state-of-the-art short game center. We’re excited to begin the process of working with the club’s membership to further define their goals and to provide them with an updated facility they will be proud of.”
